Welcome to Room 207
Ms. Stewart
Welcome to Room 207

My name is Susan Stewart, and I am delighted to be teaching 4th and 5th grade students at Howe School this year. I have been teaching in the district since 1999,  in positions ranging from gifted and talented instruction to special education resource. Most recently, I was a classroom teacher at Lyndale School for ten years. I believe my versatile background helps me challenge and encourage every child at his or her own developmental level. I am dedicated to creating a vibrant classroom community, and helping each child grow emotionally and academically.

I received my teacher training at Falk School, the University Of Pittsburgh’s lab school, which specialized in the inquiry model of instruction. Therefore, wherever possible, I like to use student questions and interests to help guide my lessons and activities.  I also try to make assignments as open-ended as possible, so that each child may take them as far as they wish. In these ways, my instructional practices are intentionally child-centered.

I think that communication with parents is very important in your child’s enjoyment and achievement at school. Please feel free contact me with any questions, comments or concerns.

The best way to reach me is through email: (susan.stewart@mpls.k12.mn.us), but you may also leave a message at Howe’s front office: (612) 668-4640. I find it very helpful to hear from parents, and enjoy receiving feedback and input.
