Happy Retirement!

Dear Hiawatha/Howe Families,

I have been blessed to have the opportunity in being the principal at Hiawatha Community School for the past 8 years. I am so happy that our school community has grown over the past few years. With our growth, we were able to open up Howe School again which was also a huge community boost. With changes that we have made, our priorities always remain the same- Students First!

I want to thank the wonderful staff for their positive approach to our students learning and social well-being. We know the importance of teaching to the “whole child” and that children are not a test score. They have built positive relationships with students and those relationships continue long after children leave their classrooms. Our Staff’s dedication to the success of every student is apparent in their passion for teaching and willingness to learn more. Thank you staff for the many gifts that I know you will continue to bring to the students and families at Hiawatha Community School. I was very honored to be your principal, colleague, and friend.

Thank you families for trusting me with your most precious belongings, your children. Every day you sent them to school ready to learn and achieve new goals. You partner with us as we map out the course for their success. You celebrate our successes and support us so that we can be the best learning community. Success is assured when students believe in themselves and in their abilities to achieve. You are the key to helping them believe and succeed.

I am grateful for the PTO, Site Council members and parents who supported our work here at Hiawatha. We must always put our children first as decisions are made moving forward. Thank you adults and community members who generously invest in and nourish the dream of Hiawatha students.

Finally, thank you students. I will miss you all more than words can say…. I have so enjoyed watching you learn and grow. I will remember each and every one of you in a very special way. You have all “filled my bucket” every day and in many ways. I will miss my hugs and all of your fun stories. This is not Good-by as I promise to visit.

As I leave Hiawatha, I have a few requests. Promise me that you will all continue to be “bucket fillers” every day. Continue to care for “Jingles” as he cares for all of you! Please continue to earn “husky pride” slips and be good stewards at our school. Please continue to care for one another and keep our little secret.  Hiawatha Community School is the best school in the district!

Thank you everyone for partnering with me. Too often we underestimate the power of a hug, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring- all of which have the potential to turn a life around. Knowing each of you has made me a better person. I am very humbled by the generosity you have shown me. My life will be forever changed because of all of you.
