Welcome to our First Grade Class!!

An exciting year of "Firsts" is well on the way, and I am very happy to be working with all of  the families this year. I am excited to launch a website to help students and families keep up with our classroom teaching and learning activities.This is an important year for your child. Please take the time regularly to talk about what's happening in school.

Thank you for dropping by! Fall is here and first graders in Room 111 are all geared up and rready for a fun year of learning.

      Literacy development

      Our three main Reading Genres will include; Fiction, Nonfiction, and Poetry. Our Reading targets will focus on: Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding vocabulary.

      Students will work diligently during our Readers' and Writers' workshops, in Small Guided reading groups and Shared Reading whole group.

       Writing

Our Writing tagets and focus this year will include; Personal Narratives (mall moments), Reviews, Informational,"How- -To", and Poetry.

       Mathematics 

       Our Math - Number concepts targets and focus this year will include; Numbers/Counting and Quantities, Geometry-2-D and 3-D Shapes, Measurement, Addition/Subtraction Story Problems, Number Patterns (place-value), and Data Analysis.

       Science

       Students in Room 111 Science unit observing, describing, recording, classifying, and categorizing Woodland and Fresh Water plant  and animal organisims. Our next and final science unit for this       school year will be our Earth Science unit - Pebble, Sand, and Silt.
