2017-2018 Hiawatha School Budget
Monday, March 06, 2017 1:50 PM

Hiawatha School has received its budget allocation for the 2017-2018 school year.  Due to overspending by the district for several years, schools are receiving a 2.5% budget decrease as Superintendent Graff works to get the district back on track. Hiawatha also received the news that we are no longer a Title 1 School. This means that we are not receiving any Title 1 funding. With the 2.5% decrease and No Title 1 funding- we are down by quite a lot. There will be changes. One of the changes will be that Hiawatha will no longer be a High-Five site. High Five is a Title 1 funded program and because we are no longer a Title 1 School- we cannot keep our High Five program here. This news is very upsetting for all of us.  We will work to be extremely creative in planning for next year.  Our Site Council will be meeting on Wednesday, March 8th and we will have a staff meeting later in the week. If needed- we will meet again with Site Council. We will be sharing budget information at the next PTO meeting which will be March 14th in the Howe Media Center beginning at 6:30 p.m.
